Be Safe on the Ice!

Winter is still here and the weather is a roller coaster ride.  Check out these ice safety tips…

  • Never go onto the ice alone.

  • Check the thickness and colour of the ice before heading out.
  • These indicate the strength and type of ice. Clear blue ice is the strongest, opaque ice is weaker and grey ice is unsafe.

Minimum ice thickness for walking is 3″ and for snowmobiles 5″ – this is a guideline only and other factors such as weather should be taken into consideration.

  • Use designated ice surfaces.
  • Check with local authorities to ensure conditions are safe before going out.

    Take safety equipment with you.
