The water level in Farlain Lake has been an ongoing concern for some time, and a significant amount of time and effort has been spent by members of the community, the FLCA and the SSEA in attempting to understand the cause and mitigate the impact it has had on the lake and properties around it. In response to a deputation made in June by some members of the lake community, Township Council directed staff to investigate the causes and possible control measures. The Public Works department prepared the Drainage Act General Process_TTowsnhip Dec 2025PWR-022-25 – Farlain Lake Water Levels – Pdf report to Council which was presented by Tim Leitch at the Committee of the Whole meeting in August.
Council approved staff’s recommendation to proceed with Option #3 recommended in the report, although there was also some consideration to the need for a hydrogeological study as outlined in Option #2. The next step was for Township staff to proceed with planning a “public information meeting” (PIC) which was held on November 25, 2025. The recording of the meeting can be viewed on the Township YouTube channel. A summary of the process, which was prepared in consultation with the Township staff, that would be implemented under the Drainage Act is attached here for your information. Please see more information regarding the changes in the Farlain Lake water level on the web site under Our Lake/Lake Water Levels.
