2026 Fire Smart Program and BBQ
Saturday August 15 12-2 pm
The risk of wildfires in Canada continues to grow and FireSmart Community Preparedness is an important program run by FireSmart Canada. Although the Day nationally is typically held in May, we’re holding our own special event later in the summer when we have a larger audience available, with the help once more of the Tiny Township fire department. Once again we’re very happy to have received a grant from FireSmart Canada in support of the program.
Are you interested in hosting a yard sale at your place?
Start the day off hosting or shopping at yard sales around the lake. While it has been suggested that we organize a community BBQ, we would like to offer an option. For those community members who would like to plan a yard sale that day, we will prepare a list and to help you navigate the sales around the lake, we will prepare a list with addresses and post the information on our FLCA Facebook closer to the date. If you are interested, please contact us via the general email box at inquiries@farlainlake.ca.
Then, once you are shopped out, join us for our special FireSmart event with our own Dino Pangrazzi sharing fire prevention tips to the community starting at 12pm -2pm! Enter draws for prizes and grab a burger or a hot dog at our community BBQ.
The FireSmart event and BBQ will be held on the Sweenie farm on the southwest end of the lake at 760 Concession Road 17 East running off of Awenda Park Road. Also accessible from end of Timcourt Dr. (those who volunteered for the EWM work will be familiar with the property and our generous host!)
In order to help us get an idea of numbers, please take a few moments to sign up by clicking here (https://forms.gle/oT6GFwJSfGfXb4oq9) no later than Monday August 10.
Join us to learn what you can do to increase your home, neighbourhood and our community’s resilience to wildfire, enjoy a BBQ and the chance to meet your lake colleagues, win prizes, meet Sparky and introduce your kids to the importance of fire prevention! Have a look at the photos below from our first FireSmart Day held last year!
